Instructions

Setting up the HTC Vive pro is not complicated. It just requires one to follow these steps in the proper order. The good news about setting up the HTC Vive pro is that all you need to do is connect everything and play through the setup process, which takes no more than 5 minutes.

If you have done everything right, your headset will be fully functional and ready to use in less than 10 minutes. Following these steps, let’s look at how To Setup HTC VIVE pro.

1. Seting up your space

First, you will need to get the VIVE pro HMD from the box and remove all the protective films from the device. Place your desk in front of where you want to set up your space so that when you're wearing the headset, you will look directly at your monitor and keyboard.

Also, place a soft object, like a pillow or mattress underneath your desk so that it is not resting on any surface but is rising off the ground.

2. Setting up your computer

Install DisplayLink software by following the instructions, then open the DisplayLink.exe executable file you downloaded. If you have an HDMI input and a display connected to your computer via HDMI cable, a new window will appear, asking which monitor should be set as the primary one.

Once this is done, go back to SteamVR setup and connect the VIVE Pro HMD (head-mounted display) with a mini-USB cable. A popup window will ask for confirmation - select yes to continue. In addition, plug in headphones for sound.

3. Software Installation

Open your installation folder, and double-click Oculus setup to unfold the Oculus Home app. Once it's opened, close it by hitting the green X button in the window's top right corner.

Unbar Steam and login with your account if you haven't already done so. Click Library, then select Tools from the list. Scroll down until you find SteamVR for Windows and install it.

4. Connecting The Cables

Connect the USB and HDMI cables to the power supply and your PC. Plug the headset, headphones, and controllers into their respective ports (Lighthouse, Headphones, Remote). Turn on your PC and load Steam VR by selecting it from your desktop application list.

Press start when prompted. Move the right controller over to the chaperone button, then press down on the trackpad until you feel a click. You should now see blue lines surrounding your play area. The same will happen with your left controller; press down on its trackpad until you feel a click to bring up the menu for turning this off later.

5. Wearing The Headset

This is important because it ensures you get the best performance from your headset and makes it easy to return. Insert the HDMI cable into the computer port that matches your HDMI video card. Also, attach one end of the Audio/Video (CV) cable to the CV 1 port on your device, plug in the power cord and turn on your device.

Plug the other end of the CV cable into a monitor or TV. Ensure that the audio cables are not plugged in, as this will cause sound to be redirected through them rather than through the headphones or built-in speakers inside your HMD.
